To qualify for these rates, proposed insured must not have total cholesterol exceeding 200 and the cholesterol/HDL ratio cannot exceed 4.0 on laboratory results from the insurance exam. This compares with untreated cholesterol markers of 225 and 4.5 respectively for Preferred Plus Non-Nicotine. The Underwriting Department suggests that if you have a client who is taking a cholesterol lowering medication, you should quote BOTH Preferred Plus Non-Nicotine and Preferred Non-Nicotine premium rates.
